10 years ago we got ourselves another cat. We already had Yazza and decided to have another newly born cat from friends of ours. It was almost like having a baby and a very important step for us since we did this before moving in together and before getting children. She was named Zazu from the bird in the movie ‘The Lion King’. She had one sister and one brother too who were also named by names from the Lion King. Her mother was a norwegian forest cat and her father a simple domestic short hair cat.
All cats have their own personalities and so did Zazu. She wasn’t afraid of anything and was constantly curious. She never took no for an answer and was sometimes almost taken for being stupid when either other cats or humans told her she couldn’t do certain things – stubborn as never before. She was extremely social. During many parties we had with friends she really enjoyed being in the center of the crowd and layed down on her back on the table hoping for someone to clap her and make her purr – quite the opposite of Yazza which in turn was hiding behind a shelf.
Her favourite food was shrimps but she was special in her way of enjoying most food. Sometimes she was craving for corn or cucumber and she of course loved raw chicken and raw fish which she had from time to time.
We could trust completely in Zazu. She never hurt anyone, she only politely said “enough” sometimes when children were a little bit hard-handed to her by slapping her little paw with just a hint of a claw. And she was very forgiving although she many times were yelled at when doing her little pranks.
A couple of weeks ago after the summer vacation was over she got sick pretty fast. Zazu who was always so full of energy suddenly lost it and got worse and worse and she lost her appetite. I took her to the vet and they told us she had problems with the liver. She got antibiotics. But that didn’t help and after two weeks she refused eating and drinking and could hardly move and her breathing was heavy. We decided to take her to the vet and make her sleep for good although this was a very tough decision. When I came home that afternoon that I had planned to do so she had already died and it suddenly became very clear to me that she was gone. It felt good that we didn’t have to do it, that she had given up herself but I was of course very sad that she was gone.
My children believes she came to a nice place after this and so do I.
We all loved Zazu and I honestly could never have wished for a better cat. Thank you my friend Zazu for the years we had together. I miss you, we miss you and we will always love you and remember you!
