 | Can't provide the service under the Gmail name in GermanyCategory: Web | ||
This is the error message I get when I try to access the page http://mail.google.com/gmail/ in Germany.
The same goes for the url http://www.gmail.com if you're using Firefox or Internet explorer. However if you're using Google Chrome the url http://www.gmail.com works fine or at least the redirection part since the url changes to http://mail.google.com/mail, but not the url http://mail.google.com/gmail/. This seems like a strange thing to me. According to the error message they weren't allowed to do this or are the Chrome browser an exception? |  | ||

| Comment posted 2009-05-10 20:28:43 by Axel Http://mail.google.com/gmail works in any browser. Some small postal service in Hamburg grabed the gmail domain earlier than google. Nevertheless until more or less 1 year ago gmail.com worked in Germany, too, after that you have to use mail.google.com or googlemail.com (I think). I don't know how you can block a .com domain with german trademark law. I guess its quite odd. have a nice stay Axel | |
