A new monkey pictogram

A monkey pictogram

I have had many positive comments and requests concerning the Monkey Pictogram I posted some time ago. Everything from buying it to getting me to design something similar!

Because of that I have made several different ones… Really a super-fun challenge! Here is another one for you to have a look at… Maybe you feel this would be the one you would want to have… or something in this direction. Even though it is a monkey pictogram or only a monkey face pictogram – it is still different from the first one. Only small details have changed but yet a different expression and feeling – or what do you think?

It would be cool to have it as a print for a t-shirt too…

Madrid, Spain and the mythical matador

by Sven R. Ohlson on May 9, 2011

Matador pictogram from Madrid

I have been in Spain for the weekend – or more exactly – as you might have read on my twitter ( svenrohlson ) – I have been in Madrid. Visited lots of nice places and of course the Museo del Prado! I have mentioned this before… It is good for inspiration to see and enjoy art in all kinds of ways. I didn’t see any bull-fights even though I have heard so much about them. Even in the early years of my life I remember the kind Disney Bull cartoon – Ferdinand the bull.

I saw many souvenir shops with pictures and posters. Even a few street artists selling some posters! Bull-fighting I think started out already somewhere around 700 AD (711 AD). I don’t know if there even was a possibility to see any bull-fights any more. They are a pretty cruel way to entertain the crowds. Didn’t think of getting to see it “LIVE” – but if you “google it” – there is lots of information about it! But it still gave me the idea to draw this little pictogram or design of the mythical matador with his sword.

The Bull itself is a mighty symbol of strength – and it should be. I have used it as my company logo too – Logo Grande – A bull to show that I make a strong and characteristic design. I think it makes better use of the bull in that way. Check it out if you got time!

The Easter rooster pictogram

by Sven R. Ohlson on April 25, 2011

in Pictogram

The Easter Rooster

Easter is here and there are a lot of eggs going around. I have eaten regular, chocolate, marzipan, and ones made of sweets. Nice to get into the spirit and actually I enjoy a lot of the different versions of eggs too. Today we even had traditional Easter-cake. It was a light-green iced fruit-cake with yellow chickens on it.

I made a little pictogram of a rooster’s head especially for the occasion. I used the same angles or triangles to make it more interesting. One could turn it over and he would have red feathers on his neck instead but still have the yellow beak! You get the idea…

It has been a fantastic day and it is time to get all the boats ready for spring and launch them. We got one boat in already – that could be because it was in all winter. It is really nice to get some time out at sea again… The ”skärgårdskryssare” (archipelago –cruiser) wooden sailing-boat is next. Today I have been scraping off some loose paint – tomorrow I will sand off the varnish on deck. I’ll keep you up-to-date when it is ready to sail off into the archipelago!

A little car pictogram

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 31, 2011

in Pictogram

Well, back from the Canary Islands – had a super time! Nice weather and a lot of water-fun – playing, swimming and some surfing. Really nice!

I was sketching on the plane home and thought about different cars, hotrods and nostalgic things… Then I sketched this little VW bubble – in a little bit of a hotrod style. Not to make into something far too detailed or so… just a little quick drawing. Just enough to give it a hotrod feel!

Tomorrow I’m off to some meetings and going to get some good photos for an ad we are making for a client. That will be fun! It is just a little handout – but it will be nice to try out their new profile and graphics that I am putting together.

I’ll show more of it soon.

A little symbol of Christmas

by Sven R. Ohlson on December 27, 2010

in Pictogram

A lot of X-mas spirit is in the air at this time of year. Christmas in shopping-windows, offices, streets and at home – all over there is Christmas in the air. And here in Stockholm I must say it is a lot of snow all over the place… really makes the Christmas feeling grow.

I have been at a few nice friends and have eaten lots of nice food. Everything from traditional ham to super-nice turkey and Christmas cake… a favourite of mine.

Enjoy the little pictogram of a tree that also has a bit of a black arrow feeling to it. The X is the Christmas star and also X as in X-mas.

Merry X-mas everyone

The bulb as a pictogram

by Sven R. Ohlson on December 20, 2010

in Pictogram

I took a picture that I posted yesterday of a light bulb – the typical symbol for an idea. Maybe even a great idea. So this time I made a light-bulb pictogram to symbolize the idea I’m working on now. Or rather it is actually a concept more or less – a new design and concept for a new product. All this is nice to put together under the uniting symbol – The bulb.

It is nice to think of things that have to do with work and design when you, for example, are out shovelling snow… and as you might know there has been a lot of snow lately. I must have been out at least five times today! And every time I come back out – it looks like nobody has been shovelling any snow for ages. Good exercise and the landscape looks incredible – like a landscape from a winter story-book or fairy-tale!

The number five

by Sven R. Ohlson on November 15, 2010

in Pictogram

I have made a few fonts and similar pictogram-like symbols for letters and so forth. I have now made a symbol or pictogram for the number five. Could also look like the letter “s”.

It has a clean cut to it. Simple, strict and I have kept it inside a box to add to its hard look.

It could be used as a logotype for a team of five or something like that…

Lifting up the box

by Sven R. Ohlson on November 8, 2010

in Pictogram

I drew a little pictogram last week or so – with a little character pushing a big box. This time he has come a bit further and become even stronger. He is lifting up the box over his head – just a little illustration of getting better and better.

Lots to do this week – but it is Monday and it feels great to get going after the weekend.

Have a super week!

Push the load in the right direction

by Sven R. Ohlson on October 25, 2010

in Pictogram

I have been very fortunate – I have got in lots of fun jobs and this, of course, gives me lots to do. This is great fun and challenging. I’ll tell you more about the different designs in later posts.

The only thing to do is to get your focus right so that things get done. I made this little pictogram to illustrate just that. Even though you have got all this stuff to push forward, meet dead-lines and create awesome designs – just push it in the right direction and you will see that it gets done in the best of ways – and that one – in my case – “me” – gets enough time for the design and idea.

Push your box in the right direction and maybe someone comes along and helps you too. Thanks Martin! (My happy trainee, Martin Ring – a young talented designer that has been with me for the last nine weeks.)

1000 days of Wohill

by Sven R. Ohlson on October 4, 2010

in Pictogram

We are proud to announce that we have had Wohill running for 1000 days!

We had this idea a couple of years ago – standing out on the balcony thinking about if we should or could start a blog about design and development… And all of a sudden we said – lets do just that!

This has been great fun and a super experience – so I thought a nice little pictogram would be cool to have for this special event. We will make some stickers and similar things to celebrate.

Happy Wohill folks!
