Sitting and designing by night

Design by night - A surfer gives inspiration.

I have had a few nice days of designing, drawing and sketching… And now and again while I look up towards the horizon to see what is coming – it gives me a little time to draw some things for my self – what I feel like and what I have in my head just right now. That also – as I have mentioned before – clears my head, gives me energy and inspires me. It gives me time to think a bit about the next project…

This time I drew a surfer – Hang Loose!

Mafia prohibition theme for the party

Maffia and prohibition theme for your party

The other week I made a few sketches for an invitation to a party. The theme was prohibition and mafia from the 1930:ties. The dress-code – had to be something from that era. To inspire the guests I did a few sketches of clothes and look from that time. Here a male in a suit and hat.

Party on!

Cat-head illustration for breakfast

Cat-head illustration for breakfast

I sat here this morning looking out the window at 2012. Very pretty when the rain hits the window and the lights reflections twinkle on the drops of water.

I sat down to take a coffee and started scribbling at a project that I have to get done this week. Then my cat came by and purred extra much – probably wanting breakfast. So I gave her some food and sat down again… I thought I would sketch a cat-head first just to get started. Here it is – a strict look from the cat!

Have a good 2012 or even a fantastic 2012!

Merry Christmas from Wohill - Sven R. Ohlson and Niklas Waller

Hope you all are having, or have had, a great Christmas! We didn´t get a white Christmas this year. But still – it is very beautiful with all the decorations – and it is nice to see how people get ready for all the festivities and the things they do for the holidays.

A season of lights and hopes!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Walking the dog and friends for life

by Sven R. Ohlson on December 13, 2011

Walking the dog

Here is a sketch I did the other day – a little illustrated thought about friendship. An old man walking his little dog. A reflection of today – this old man taking his dog for a walk… or is it two companions for life out and about – talking to one an other about their life. Many ways to look at a relationship between two friends. Lots of things to do together and sharing the moments that later will be memories… An unbreakable bond – silent understanding and acknowledgement of each other.

Friends…

Faces fascinate

Faces fascinate

Facial expression and what we can read out of a face is incredible… without even saying anything. It is also interesting to look at different faces and one automatically get impressions and different reactions – someone looking angry or sad… but best of all the smile – a smiling face makes you feel better and is easy to pass on!

I drew this quick sketch on a design-meeting the other day – enhanced the proportions a bit as you can see to make it a bit more dramatic. It is interesting to see how characteristics can stick out and make the sketch a little bit more exciting.

Keep smiling as the ad once said!

Space-head illustration

by Sven R. Ohlson on November 7, 2011

in Illustration

A space-head design in the morning to get started.

This morning I woke up and after a few good hours of sleep I had to get back to the drawing-board. I have lots of fun projects going on right now and had to get started right away! Just to warm up I did some sketches of some space influenced character… as you can see. Kind of a space head illustration I would say.

Have a fantastic week!

Pigge is helping the kids to learn how to read

My kids are trying to learn how to read and my son really wants to catch up with his sister. We looked through some of the children’s books that we have at home. I think there are lots of good ones… the only problem is that the level of difficulty is too high or too low – either books that I read to them – or stories or books for babies with one picture and one word. That makes it too easy for them – they look at the pictogram or picture and just guess what it says.

What they both enjoyed was that they came up with what they wanted me to draw. I drew a little cartoon dog that my son named ”Pigge” – and that did different things. For example that ”Pigge was out in the wind – it is autumn.”

Pretty fun for all of us I must say! It was a beautiful day but still very windy. I have, as you can see, posted the one when Pigge is out in the wind. I might post some more of ”Pigge’s” adventures in the future too!

Toads live a long life

by Sven R. Ohlson on August 29, 2011

in Illustration

Story-book toad

Through the years and story-books toads have shown up here and there. They are often elegant and a bit snobbish in their ways and looks. There are lots of good stories I must say. The wind in the willows for example… I felt like honouring that by drawing an elegant cartoon toad too.

I posted a picture for a few days ago of a toad… and then thought of how long toads actually live – and what I could find – was that they could get to be approximately 40 years old. That gives the toad that extra time in his life to become who he is – as you can see in my illustration – an experienced individual yet not so broad-sighted. Stands his ground – even though he might not be the most well educated toad on earth. Still he has a good heart and means well…

A nice toad – a lonely toad – but a toad that enjoys life – a long life!

The burdens of enjoying life

Every day you have a little thought about what to do or what you should do – and maybe you have a few things that you would rather do. The thing is it should be a joy to do them all. Or would that be a perfect world that does or doesn’t exist?

Maybe you would like just that special carrot – just like the rabbit I have drawn – or something that you just love and want more and more of… It might be a burden that it takes so much energy that you can not carry it any more – you just want it so bad that you have to get some support and help to go on further.

Or do you have to let it go…
