Yellow bear

by Sven R. Ohlson on April 12, 2010

in Aquarelle

Here is a little yellow bear painted in aquarelle. I have given him a kind look and still a bit mysterious – since you can’t see his mouth. He is hanging in mid air – to give a more teddy-bear feel to him. Like someone is holding him. To give him more of a strong look I have outlined him in ink. I haven’t named him yet… he might be a good cartoon later on… Maybe I will come up with a name for him in the future. If you have any good ideas – send me an e-mail.

An aquarelle man holding fire

by Sven R. Ohlson on February 8, 2010

in Aquarelle

I painted some aquarelles the other day and got lost in some ideas about a Neptune-like man holding fire as you can see. I thought he should have cool flowing hair and a similar flame in his hand. I have given him some outlines in ink to get a more distinct feel and look.

Probably got this idea from all the diving and looking at corals in Egypt! It is nice to get lots of good influence from the world around you.

A blue monkey in the freezing cold

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 18, 2010

in Aquarelle

It has been really cold here in Sweden for some time now. Very pretty with all the snow and a bit colder than in Egypt – I just spent a few weeks there. It is about fifty degrees colder in Stockholm. So this monkey – blue of cold – represents how cold I felt getting off the plane when we arrived home – but there is a good thing about the snow. It makes the dark nights very much lighter – and very pretty too – when the full moon is up, for instance. The snow almost sparkles in the moonlight!

The monkey is made in aquarelle and ink. By the way – there are lots of fun things to do in the snow too! Snowboarding, tobogganing, skiing and building snowmen – don’t forget the hot cup of chocolate when you get back in again!

A blue cartoon bird in aquarelle

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 4, 2010

in Aquarelle

I was out in the snow the other day and it was blowing and snowing like never before. Or that is what it felt like when I was standing there at the moment…

I thought it was pretty cold and a little bird came to mind – blue and a bit cold.

Have been painting a few things in aquarelle right now – so I thought it appropriate to paint this little character in aquarelle too.

Stay warm!

A snowman in aquarelle

by Sven R. Ohlson on December 28, 2009

in Aquarelle

It’s been snowing like mad here in Stockholm the last week. We have snow everywhere. Just this Saturday there was so much snow and I had to get my boat out of the water before the ice comes. There even was a thin layer – so it was time.

I got it up safe with the help of my father – and a lot of shovelling of snow too.

I thought about snowmen and decided to paint a little one when I got home. Here he is.

It is very beautiful with all the snow – and it really lights up the dark nights.

A lot is resting upon the shoulders of Barack Obama. First I want to congratulate him to becoming the 44th president of the USA. A lot of people have been waiting for this moment. A lot of people are expecting change. This is also the latest Barack Obama has posted on his website. Change can happen – and I believe it can. Obama has in many ways been clever in using media and especially modern media to get out to the people – of course, the traditional ways such as television and internet – but even Twitter and Facebook – ingenious ways to actually reach a younger generation too.

The other day I was painting and watched a news-flash about Barack Obama – and I have seen the popular poster painted with Obama and the word “Hope” by Shepard Fairey – so I thought it was time I also did an interpretation of Obama. It is painted in aquarelle or watercolour-paints. I chose blue because it gives a sense of trust and respect. Obama uses a lot of blue on his website and so forth. I gave him a little star to represent USA – I also painted him with a smile. I think this gives a nice feeling of warmth.

Good luck Barack Obama and good luck with being the new president of America.

A monk’s face in orange

by Sven R. Ohlson on February 8, 2009

in Aquarelle

I have been posting some aquarelle (water colour) paintings lately and here is one more. Since I was in Thailand I thought I would see lots of monks – but as a matter of fact I have almost not seen any monks at all. When I was in a shopping mall getting some groceries I actually saw one monk with a shopping-cart. He had filled the whole cart with glass-bottled Coca-Cola. They must be drinking a lot of soda in the Temple – it’s pretty hot in Thailand.

I have given the monk a tanned or orange look. His cloak or clothing is reflected up on his face. That’s why I made him so orange. I used some black dots to give some clearer contours. I also like the brush-strokes giving texture and dimension to the monk’s face.

Orchid in aquarelle (water colour)

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 28, 2009

in Aquarelle

The other day I painted a view over Najomtien. While I was trying out different colours and mixtures – at the same time I was painting other things too – just to see the colours flow and what kind of shade I was looking for.

So we had a great lunch or more exactly brunch at the restaurant “Mantra” in Pattaya. On the way there, or maybe it was at the entrance, I saw some beautiful orchids. Or maybe I should confess I saw them from afar and they looked like orchids anyway. They inspired me to make some surrounding graphics too – as you can see. There are thousands of different species of orchids – and one might think of this one as being “The Wohill Orchid”.

Enjoy your surroundings – I do.

Every morning when I woke up in Najomtien these last three weeks I have looked at the sunrise and the landscape outside my balcony – a beautiful view and horizon. So one morning I decided to use my aquarelles (water colours) to grasp the nice view. So you can see the roof of a temple for monks and some palm-trees, a few Thai flags and some bushy hills far away as well as a blue sky with some thin clouds – all very inspiring to look at.

We were fortunate to get a corner balcony and could see the sun rise and also set in the late evening. I will post some more pictures too in the near future.

I have made a wallpaper too so you can get a better look at the aquarelle (water colour painting).
