Spring is coming along now here in the North. I have had a lot to do – really fun and creative things! Some outside work too! – It is time, as I told you before, for all the boats to get into the water again. I have been fixing up the sailing-boat for the last few days – after and before work. It isn’t weather for painting early in the morning… Still there are quite a few more things that need to be done. I’ll have to post some pictures in the future from the boat getting all set.
Now I have had the opportunity to be outside awhile when going back and forth to fix the boat and I have really enjoyed the super weather we are having. Spring is just wonderful… Everything is coming to life again after the white and cold winter. Take a walk down to the water-front, go for a run or start getting your boat ready for summer… and you will notice the changes nature is making right now. Fantastic!
I was sketching on a few different fonts and logos – I got inspired by all the leaves popping up on bushes and branches all over the place – and made a “Wohill Organic” font.
Off to the boat before work! It is great with Mondays don’t you think? You’ve got all week ahead of you – lots to be done and lots of time to do it in!

When designing fonts, letters and numbers you would want the font to feel like it is in harmony with its fellow characters. This actually applies to logo-design too! You have to make the first impression feel just right – and when looking closer – it might give you a little bit more – some little detail that enhances the total look!
This time I have designed some numbers that should be clear and easy to interpret. Elegant and swish to portray the numbers you want – on a door to a hotel or entrance to a building or even on your mailbox! It is a condensed and tall font to suit its purpose. You might see several optional places and use for this font – maybe even in a logotype of some kind.
Check your world around you for numbers… I have called this font: Your Hill. I will post more of it – when I get round to designing more characters!

I have been sketching on a new logo for a design-company and while doing so I usually do a lot of sketches and different design themes. So this letter “S” turned out this way when I was trying out a new style or font. I wanted it to give a sketched feeling as you can see. The colour behind is made in a straighter line and the black outline or stroke is jagged and torn. I think the mix gives a nice and lively look to it.
I’m not sure if this will be the final style – but it is under development. Now I think I will go out for a walk of inspiration to get going with the rest of the logotype.

On Monday I posted a font that was inspired by old-styled lettering with a modern feeling to it. This time I have drawn a font inspired by plants and nature. I have written the word “love” as you may be able to see. The first two mushrooms are not included in the first letter. They are there to get the right feeling and look to the whole word. The next mushroom or plant-like thing with leaves round the stem is the letter “L”. After that, the flower is the “O”, the next plant with thin leaves twirling upwards is the letter “V” and finally the bigger thicker leaves make the last letter “E”.
It is a powerful word as I said last time and it is not always meant to be easy to tell what it says right away. I have made the letters feel like part of nature and still have a message if you look carefully – in this case it is the word “LOVE”.
One could actually call it “Flower Power”.

A while back I drew a font that I thought I might use for Niklas and myself if we would write a Biography or story about Wohill and ourselves. So I sketched on some different styles of fonts and posted a few letters on Wohill. I thought they would work well and give nice character to a book – a style that is modern but still gives resemblance of the old days.
A few days ago I got a comment from Kourtney, who liked the font, and asked if I could put together the word “love” in this font. I have now put together a similar style of font and it turned out as you can see above. Hope you like it Kourtney.
Hope also that who ever gets it will enjoy it too. The word is very powerful in many ways – and used in a nice sense, it can make someone really glad.

The other day I was talking to Niklas Waller about the “Elephant” project and as you might have seen I made a little pictogram. Now I have been thinking about using a font to match this symbol or icon. So I started drawing a font…
The font is made in a little twirl – or not all on a straight base – a bit like an elephant trunk – just to make it a bit more exiting with the little bend. I started to sketch the text on paper and then moved on to finishing it up in Illustrator. I haven’t made it into a font but it would be an idea anyway. We will see how it turns out in the end. We will keep up-to-date on that in the future.

I have to say that it is very nice to sit and design font-faces and typefaces. They have a lot of character and say a lot before they even become words. These letters I made this time are not for a text-font but more for headers and headings in general – or starting up chapters and so forth. Maybe, as I mentioned before, for a biography about Niklas Waller and myself (Randolph Guy) starting up and running Wohill. Really a super thing – I must say! Lots of marvellous things and great ideas have come out of us writing and designing this blogg.
It also is fun to show you what we are developing and designing for our different clients, when we get the time of course!

Different fonts give different feelings. A nice story-book from the old days would probably start the chapter with a capital letter in this style. Maybe you would write a biography and want to give the reader a perspective of that there is much to come. You will go way back in time. The letter has a feeling of life – the leaves giving an impression and describing how life turns out and grows every day. I wouldn’t mind writing one myself about life. Probably it would be a lot of sketches and designs and not too much text – but it would be great fun. Actually today’s bloggs are sorts of biographies. Niklas and I are talking about everyday things that we like… Maybe it’s more like a diary until we make a book out of it.
I think it is a great way to start off a book or story using this kind of style. Fonts really give a lot of character to the text that you would be reading. The writer should be concerned about the fact that this sets the mood.
So this might give you something to think of the next time you read a book. What does this font tell you…?

I felt like making a font that would be nice for T-shirts and big ads – something that felt bulky and strong. So I made this capital “A”. I even joined it at the bottom to give it a rigid base. I left the support lines to show you how I have been sketching and thinking about the design.
Compared to the last letter I made that was more ”swooshy” and thin – this gives a much more solid feeling. Could be nice as a team logo or symbol. I am in the process of making a logotype right now – maybe this could be a great font to use for that.
If you are out looking for inspiration or maybe even just some good fonts there are a lot of free fonts at: – or you can buy fonts at for example:
I would also recommend if you want to get a good look of what fonts are called (that is their actual names) or what all the letters look like.

Fonts in general can give you lots of different feelings and ideas. The font in an ad can easily give you a good or bad feeling. Sometimes it’s very informative and sometimes it just shows you a great slogan. With magazine-ads readers seldom read more than the heading – if that even… If you are lucky they will see the picture or illustration and maybe even the logo.
This is why one has to have an appealing font. I like to design fonts, but it takes a lot of time as you might realize or even know. Every character has its personal feeling and yet that feeling has to be portrayed in all the other letters of that font. Has to… or not – you as the creator decides that.
There are lots of nice fonts – some are really well known: Helvetica (Max Miedinger in 1957), Times New Roman (1932) and so on. Some are serif and some sans-serif…
Here is the letter “a” – swerving and easy-going.
