Cartoon letters for kids

A cartoon alphabet in colour

Time to learn the alphabet? Or at least my kids are ready for this… – I think I´m all set. But I thought I would help them along a little… You know – to get them to think it looked a bit more fun and stimulate them in the learning process – and that letters can come in many different shapes and forms. Many letters have small animals and give-aways to help you guess what words start with this letter… But in school you often have to learn the alphabet by heart.

Here is a little opportunity for the kids to play around with the letters. Cut them out and build their own words and alphabet – I´ll update you all how it goes!

A bic cat - the tiger as a pictogram

This weekend has been full of fun and games in the snow. It has been pretty cold too – still the weather was wonderful – the kids love playing around in the snow. You get lots of fresh air and lots of inspiration!

Here is a little sketch that I made of a tiger or big cat of some kind.

Sitting and designing by night

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 30, 2012

Design by night - A surfer gives inspiration.

I have had a few nice days of designing, drawing and sketching… And now and again while I look up towards the horizon to see what is coming – it gives me a little time to draw some things for my self – what I feel like and what I have in my head just right now. That also – as I have mentioned before – clears my head, gives me energy and inspires me. It gives me time to think a bit about the next project…

This time I drew a surfer – Hang Loose!

Mafia prohibition theme for the party

by Sven R. Ohlson on January 24, 2012

Maffia and prohibition theme for your party

The other week I made a few sketches for an invitation to a party. The theme was prohibition and mafia from the 1930:ties. The dress-code – had to be something from that era. To inspire the guests I did a few sketches of clothes and look from that time. Here a male in a suit and hat.

Party on!

After sketch – The fat bird

After sketch... The fat bird

I was just at a good meeting with one of my clients. Some more fun projects and designs to do.

I then came back to the office and got started right away. While drawing a few sketches I thought I might take a detour and so this bird came up. A little bit of excess sketches I would call it. You know – you are so eager to get things down on paper and into your computer or where ever you are doing your designs for the moment… You just have to draw a few extra things after you got your idea on paper… so this time – A Fat bird!

Cat-head illustration for breakfast

Cat-head illustration for breakfast

I sat here this morning looking out the window at 2012. Very pretty when the rain hits the window and the lights reflections twinkle on the drops of water.

I sat down to take a coffee and started scribbling at a project that I have to get done this week. Then my cat came by and purred extra much – probably wanting breakfast. So I gave her some food and sat down again… I thought I would sketch a cat-head first just to get started. Here it is – a strict look from the cat!

Have a good 2012 or even a fantastic 2012!

Merry Christmas from Wohill - Sven R. Ohlson and Niklas Waller

Hope you all are having, or have had, a great Christmas! We didn´t get a white Christmas this year. But still – it is very beautiful with all the decorations – and it is nice to see how people get ready for all the festivities and the things they do for the holidays.

A season of lights and hopes!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Monkeys before Christmas

Monkeys before Christmas

Lots to do before Christmas comes along. Everybody is shopping and hopping around like monkeys – getting ready for the holidays. Food, toys, wrapping-paper – you name it… they just need to buy it now. I was out to get some things and I must say that lots of people were out on the move. I don’t really mind all the people. It is actually interesting to see all of these different kinds of people handling X-mas in their own way. Put things into perspective – don’t forget to enjoy the moment.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The girl with the dragon tattoo

The girl with the dragon tattoo - graphic designer Sven R. Ohlson

The trilogy by Stieg Larsson is now soon having its world movie premier. Directed by the famous David Fincher who has made several, or might I say, lots of fantastic movies! He has worked with the Oscar-awarded production-designer Donald Graham Burt – who I also have had the privilege to get to know and work with on this movie – The girl with the dragon tattoo. I have worked as graphic designer on this movie – that I must recommend you to see. There were three graphic designers on this movie – Josef Norén, Martin Ring and myself (Sven R. Ohlson). You will see many fantastic sets, designs and environments on this film – overall a super-nice look and feel to the movie – thanks to many of the talented people I have come to know while working on this film.

Thanks guys for being able to join you and work together with you all on this movie! I would mention the names of you all – but I’m afraid I would forget someone – you know who you are!

Walking the dog and friends for life

by Sven R. Ohlson on December 13, 2011

in Illustration

Walking the dog

Here is a sketch I did the other day – a little illustrated thought about friendship. An old man walking his little dog. A reflection of today – this old man taking his dog for a walk… or is it two companions for life out and about – talking to one an other about their life. Many ways to look at a relationship between two friends. Lots of things to do together and sharing the moments that later will be memories… An unbreakable bond – silent understanding and acknowledgement of each other.

Friends…
