Girl-top in butterfly style

by Sven R. Ohlson on July 14, 2008

in Fashion

Summer is really coming along and it’s about time too! Longing for some sunshine and being able to dress a bit more for that kind of weather. Trunks and a t-shirt – you are all set to go. Is that not a great way to go? Now women also want to feel as easy and ready in five minutes as the guys – nice top or t-shirt and a skirt or maybe even a pair of surf trunks instead.

Just get dressed for the occasion – barbeque on the beach or a walk on the boulevard (on the sunny side of the road).

The top you see is made with a nice ”v-neck” to give it some feminine feeling. The collar-band runs down and round the back to give the top a separate parting from the two basic colours – yellow and white. The yellow representing the sun and the white gives a fresh crisp feeling. I have added a little sleeve to match the collar. The pattern on the white and yellow are butterflies in different transparencies. The butterflies also give a summer-look. The one on the back gives a clean look from behind describing the pattern on the front and so does the little one in the bottom corner.

Have a nice summer!

Sneakers with speed

by Sven R. Ohlson on July 7, 2008

in Fashion

A sneaker with a speedy look – a sneaker with a tight running-shoe kind of fit – a sneaker that gives you the feeling of speed. Compared to a street sneaker that’s for skate-boarding this is a shoe with a tighter fit. The skate-board versions of sneakers have a pretty thick sole and are quite rigid – a feeling I myself like. This time I thought it would be nice to have a shoe that could go with a suit or be a city-sneaker. A lot of brands have made tight-fitting sneakers, for example, Royal Elastics or Le coq sportif. So this is not an invention in any way. Just that I feel like contributing to this style of sneakers.

I think the way to go is having a kind of slip-on shoe – this is a nice way to get out the door quickly – just like the bigger version of a skate-shoe, when you tie them pretty loose and just slide into them. These would give a tighter feeling and of you being in the fast lane right on your door-step. The colours are a summer-inspired style. White is fresh and the green is like spring grass. The yellow will be the sun rising… The “WO” flamingo should be in shining gold – to give an exclusive touch.

Count your steps!

Red cap from Wohill

by Sven R. Ohlson on July 2, 2008

in Fashion

I have had a lot of different caps through the years. I think of them as an accessory that many times is needed to complete the outfit you are wearing. Of course many different sports use caps as part of their outfit or team look. Baseball for instance – what would the players look like without their caps? The baseball-cap for me is one of the most traditional caps. You see them on people and in stores everywhere. Of course the cap has changed over the years.

Caps that have been used a lot are for example: the beatle-cap, the motoring cap, French sailor or maybe even the field cap. That is the one that my design is most similar to. I like the baseball-cap a lot but thought it would be better for this look to be more like the field-cap. I have made it to suit the trunks that were designed for Wohill – same strong red colour with distinct black symbols. The sewn wave is also there. Now one definitely doesn’t have to wear everything in a combo but the Wohill surf-line has to have some characteristics that one can follow in the whole line. The Flamingo could be made as a pin or embroidered on the side.

Surf t-shirt from Wohill

by Sven R. Ohlson on June 25, 2008

in Fashion

The t-shirt must be one of the world’s most common garments on this planet. I myself have lots of them. Every one of them says something special or reminds me of a place where I have been or something I have done. They all represent different eras in t-shirt design. Some are very wide and loose and some are slim-fitting with a tighter fit. I actually have a few from the mid eighties or early nineties. These are a bit loose today. I think that was just the way they were designed in those days – and seamless T-shirts probably weren’t even thought of. The backside of saving all these T-shirts is that there are t-shirts everywhere.

This time I have made a dark-grey Wohill “T” – one that would go great with the red trunks I made the other day. I have made two red stripes over the top of the shirt that can be sewn on or screen-printed. The version, that one would sew them on, could be made a bit ruffer and the edges could be torn. The screen-printed version should be printed on top of everything. I used the “100 day” logo too – the Wohill flamingo up close, just the head. I made it when we had had Wohill running for 100 days. It pops out nice against the grey background. It should be printed with a reflecting print. There is a little brand-enhancement in the bottom corner too – the symbol for Wohill.

Surfing in the coolest trunks

by Sven R. Ohlson on June 23, 2008

in Fashion

I would think that the word surf-trunk comes from swim-trunks and instead of calling them shorts. Shorts would be more for tennis and hanging ashore. The “mac” dictionary I use says: Shorts are short pants that reach only to the thighs or knees. Luckily enough one can use several different kinds of shorts for different occasions. I have some nice photos of myself in younger years wearing shorts, to go surfing in, that look more like they were made for land than surf. Compared to today, I remember thinking they were really cool once upon a time. Well it’s nice to laugh about it today – design and trends tend to change through the years. When the longer shorts came along I thought they covered your leg better and you didn’t get a rash on the inside of your thighs when sitting on the board. I haven’t been able to develop leather thick skin there since I don’t get the possibility to surf more than a few weeks a year. Now these few weeks inspire me tremendously to make board-shorts, surf-trunks and surf gear in general.

These shorts are made in a tone of green and I have used the Wohill-flamingo as a pattern and background-symbol to give the trunks an extra Wohill vibe. Keep surfing rather than not – and rather than good. Just enjoy!

Surf-trunks and surf-shorts

by Sven R. Ohlson on June 20, 2008

in Fashion

Through the years surfing has grown into an international extreme-sport that near to everyone knows about or at least has heard about some time. The legends and athletes today travel the world to join competitions and try out new surf-spots. The clothing industry has also grown tremendously in the last years. You can even buy shares in big surf-brands today. It is in some ways a good thing that the industry is expanding. I myself like the surf-style of clothes that are made… They have a good mixture from everyday-wear to surf and snow gear. This time I have made a surf trunk for Wohill. Or more exactly for anyone who likes surf-trunks and maybe also Wohill. The surf-shorts have developed a lot through the years. Before there were more often pretty short – remember the movie ”Endless summer”. Then there is the bermuda-style of shorts that are very much longer. The shorts today have very nice printing methods that make it easy to print almost what you want on your trunks.

This design is made to finish just below the knee. They are bright red to give that extra “sporty” feeling. It has thin dotted lines to give an exclusive feeling and the big black letters to give some power and show off the brand. The dotted lines are made a bit like surf-waves to strengthen the general purpose of the trunks. Hang loose and look out for there will be more surf-trunk designs on the way.

Oscar Julander has a fashionblogg

by Sven R. Ohlson on June 13, 2008

in Fashion

Many people today have a blogg or write on a blogg about all kinds of things. Blogging and daily information are for anyone who feels like reading about this person’s point of view or news. It is a great way to start your day – like a morning paper or magazine. So many ways to get some great reading done and maybe, like in my case, also get some inspiration and new ideas for designs that I will be doing in the future.

Oscar Julander is a writer and blogger that has a blogg named ”Stilbloggen”. He writes about clothing and fashion – takes a lot of pictures of stuff that keeps him going. This is an inspiring thing for someone who likes to see what Oscar likes and does.

For being a fashion and trend-blogg I think he might be missing one thing – a logotype or symbol that would represent his passion. I have used his initials ”O” and ”J”. The feeling I’m looking for here is a stylish and sleek design. The dotted line is like a seam in clothing and the ”J” is like a thread… and also like an autograph “J” – a stylish logo for a stylish person writing about style!

Dress for victory

by Sven R. Ohlson on June 11, 2008

in Fashion

A dress designed for the evening. I have put the pattern on top and made some great white lines to give character and enhance body-shape and lines. The main part of the dress is with thin lines in dark green on a faded green. The pattern is circular and full of passion – at least these lines on top of everything anyway. The white “V” is made on several places as shown on the sketch and an upside-down “V” in the parting of the hair. The other “Vs” are the neck, the waist and two below the waist over the thighs.

Thought it would be nice to give the dress an intricate pattern and style that would give you something extra to look at besides a beautiful lady inside. This would be a perfect party-dress.

Do women today wear dresses enough? – Maybe not in everyday life, but certainly for festive occasions!

Fashion on the catwalk

by Sven R. Ohlson on April 9, 2008

in Fashion

So to complete the YOtokyo line just for the moment I have done one more design for you to look at. It still goes in the white and red colours. I made a cocoon-jacket to give some warmth to the early spring line. Its lining is light pink to make it a little bit extra interesting when you see the jacket slightly open, or hanging up. There is a strong pin-like needle in rubber to close the jacket opening. The high boots give a luxurious feeling. The red rectangles are also placed on the boots, on the hip-pocket and on the collar joining the v-neck lining. I gave the girl a red hair-band too. So she is dressed in the high-boots and the trousers are high in the waist.

I like the clean look that this line has. It is inspired by lots of different input that I have got lately. The common shapes and colours I have chosen are to keep the style of the line going in the same direction. Things have to suite each other – like the roundness and egg shape both come forward in the jacket and the hat I did last time. The time before that, I made another hat that reminds you of the jacket design. It’s nice to see shapes repeat themselves in the clothes and hats.

Something might be just for you!

Design hats in a Japanese style

by Sven R. Ohlson on April 7, 2008

in Fashion

An accessory necessary for a great outfit could be the hat – worn by the right person to the right style of clothing. I’m giving you a feel for some more of the YOtokyo line. I think it’s slightly inspired by Tokyo and Japan. This time I have made a tighter hat with a cocoon look. It should still stay within the colour scheme as before. This time the red parts of the hat could be more shiny or blank. Maybe even plastic – like a red screen coming from under the top of the hat.

This hat also comes down and round the neck – so if putting it on, you would almost put it over your head like a warrior-helmet. The white surrounding part is stiff and stands by itself. The two red blocks help to enhance the red coming from under the top of the hat. The strict ”V” shape compensates the “roundish” egg-shape from the top. It catches and holds the egg so to speak.

I have spent a weekend in Barcelona and got lots of new inspiration and ideas – just waiting to get out on paper and on the net – on Wohill of course, so I think it is time for me to get started on my next design…
