A spring coat

by Sven R. Ohlson on March 21, 2011

in Fashion

Almost all the snow has melted away here on my street. Spring is on its way – even though it was snowing on Friday.

I thought it would be nice to design a spring-coat. With some parts that remind a bit of the dress I posted the other day. The triangles are what I have used to give a similarity and feeling from the dress. The coat has some nice parts that are enhanced to give it some extra character as you can see – the pockets and collar.

It has been a fantastic winter with lots of snow – but I think it is safe to say that we are all ready for the spring now!

Fashion design sketches

by Sven R. Ohlson on March 14, 2011

in Fashion

I have many different fields and interests that I enjoy designing in … and, of course, also like to work with. One of these, as you might have noticed, is fashion and clothing design. A lot of different prints and patterns – and clothing-styles!

This time I have designed a dress on this girl walking towards you. On a catwalk if you wish. The swaying hair gives some extra movement and feeling to it. The dress is sewn in different layers to give it some depth and movement – in the same material. The different layers give the dynamic feel to it – and it doesn’t in this case need extra colours and more graphic details. Less is more in this design!

Friday suit instead of casual Friday

by Sven R. Ohlson on March 7, 2011

in Fashion

We have had a little talk about casual Friday – a few co-workers and friends – the other week or so. Eventually we decided that we could dress up a notch instead of down and said to each other that we would have a suit and tie instead. To celebrate that the weekend is close and Friday is the perfect start of the weekend – now we have Friday suit as a rule instead. I must say that we, or at least I, have had a super response. People smile and think that this is a fun alternative to the regular dress-code.

That is why I was sketching some alternative looks for “Friday-suit” day. One should of course feel that this is the way to go… As you can see I have made a pretty loose street style – but still a slick look.

Looking forward to Friday already!

I made a few more designs for the UnderWearRevolution competition. Here is also a sporty design with graphics. This is to give the underwear a bit more of a young and sleek look. I thought these would give a fresh look too if they were white and grey. The logotype and symbol could be in platinum or silver. Made in some kind of metal or embroidered onto the leg as you can see in the sketch. I also made a little cut to keep the same feeling as in the last design I posted the other day – just so one keeps the underwear line in the same feeling for the first launch. Good luck to all that have joined the competition.

They didn’t mention if they had a symbol or logotype – which I think is essential to a brand. So I made a little suggestion for that too. It is the three main letters in the word Under Wear Revolution. A “U” lying down on its side, and that also is part of the “R” and finally the “W” inside the “R and U”.

Change underwear every day.

The other day I saw an ad on Facebook about two guys who wanted to start a new line of underwear for men. They have called it UnderWearRevolution. Nice that someone is getting into some more cool underwear for men!

I thought I would send in a sketch or two with some ideas. Here is one idea that is a sporty kind of look with a nice rounded cut at the leg. I think it would be nice with some graphics on the right leg. As you can see, the colours I chose on this specific pair are red and white. I made a little “v” in the white lining to give some extra exclusiveness.

I will post a logo-suggestion too in a day or so.

Leather jacket for the autumn

by Sven R. Ohlson on September 29, 2008

in Fashion

The leaves are changing from green to lots of different colours – so many different shades of red, orange and yellow. The winds are getting a bit colder, but the sun is still breaking through the clouds and a blue sky makes even the autumn look really beautiful.

So now it’s time to get dressed for this kind of weather – black leather jacket with a high collar to keep the cool winds out. Several pockets are on the front to give a more worked look – so light will reflect nicely on the black leather.

A thick chrome zipper will shine against the black.

Get ready for autumn – an autumn jacket on and stay cool on the outside!

Fashion with nice cuts

by Sven R. Ohlson on September 22, 2008

in Fashion

This dress is generally inspired by my “Lady Cartoon” that I did the other day. The big hair caught by the wind – swirling and twirling – but the dress is less cartoon inspired and more like a gala dress. There are big openings in the sleeves and sharp endings too. Matching this are the cuts in the neck, shoulder and leg-parts of the dress. This produces a tight and exclusive feeling to give contrast to the wavy hair-style.

This would be a dress for the beginning of the autumn. Suited for the evening – the sun is setting and stars are coming out…

Ladies’ shoes – designed in white

by Sven R. Ohlson on August 18, 2008

in Fashion

Shoes for ladies exist in thousands of shapes and looks all over the world. I felt that it was time to design a look that is a bit more extraordinary than the clean or sleek look that they many times have. I think that a clean look many times is the way to go. But if you want the shoe to stand out and get noticed – if you might get dressed in a nice plain one-colour dress – this may be the shoe you are looking for – a touch of “art nouveau” in the patterns on the heel and almost down by the nose of the shoe.

The heel is the most extravagant part of the shoe. I want it to really have that nice flowing organic feeling. The twirl is a mix of a surf-wave and the pattern on the shoe. The heel should be three-dimensional – polished, shining white – no broader than the shoe. I made this design in plain white to let you see the graphic design of the shoe and how powerfully these shapes enhance the look. The top wave or twirl follows the shape of the ankle – so the shoe and person wearing it merge nicely together – shape-wise that is.

Enjoy the walk!

A lot of cool fish out there

by Sven R. Ohlson on August 6, 2008

in Fashion

The Hot Tuna inspired fish I did before needed a friend or at least one more ugly fish in the sea. This could be great for a cool t-shirt or a pair of surf-trunks or maybe even a surf-logotype. The yellow and black stripes are meant to look a bit like tiger-stripes so as to give the fish a bit more of an aggressive feeling. The purple eye is to complement the yellow.

In the future I might design a t-shirt and some surf-gear that can have these different ugly or cool fish on them.

I have to say that when I sit here drawing fish and thinking of the first times the guys and I went windsurfing – it brings back lots of good old memories and stories. Now I won’t bore you with lots of these old tales… But I can tell you that one of the great windsurfers that inspired us to go out and look for wind was the legend Robby Naish. He had been surfing for a few years before we heard of him and he is a couple of years older too. He really made some progress in the surfing community and won lots of races and tried lots of cool stuff. So thanks to Robby Naish we started windsurfing.

Enjoy the fish – Hang Loose.

Surfing in cool clothes from Hot Tuna

by Sven R. Ohlson on August 4, 2008

in Fashion

Back in the days – when we were a few years younger and had almost only one thing on our minds – surfing – we were catching waves when we were abroad or most of all we were all waiting for wind and talking about the last surf-session or the latest progress of the surf-team. Windsurfing was one of the main things we did in the summer vacation. Standing on the jetty looking over towards our home-spot “Paradise”. That’s what we called it anyway. It was a name that my father and his friends called it before us… But it sounded really good and can’t you imagine just how much one wants to surf a spot called “Paradise”!

Finishing work and getting all the gear into the boats and off we went. Rigging as fast as we could – the wind could drop in a flash. Our team name was, and still is, MST – Möja Surf Team. There is a lot to tell from those days – so I might mention something about it again.

We all followed the local style and dress-code. In those days surf-clothing wasn’t so widely spread in the world. One of the brands that we used a lot and thought was really cool was “Hot Tuna”. That brand was growing and getting better every year. Suddenly it disappeared from our local surf stores. Never new what actually happened. Now they have a website and you can by some gear from their web-shop. Hope they show up world wide again!

We called the brand “Botkyrka” locally and among friends.

This design is made thinking of “Hot Tuna” and inspired by their logo. It is a cool fish to wear on your surf-trunks or your t-shirt. Maybe the brand would need some help or inspiration some day. In that case we would be glad to help out.

Keep on surfing!
