| Fashion in the AlpsArchive: 2008 January
|
| If you like skiing or just enjoy beautiful scenery and fresh air, you might want to go to the well-known little village in the French Alps. There are lots of great activities you can do - everything from swimming to skating or of course skiing - The Valle Blanche glacier. What happens when you have worked out all day and feel that you want to do something more fun – you get dressed for it!
Today I have designed an outfit for that lovely day in the Alps when you have been skiing all day and just left your hotel and have headed off to the restaurant and bar for the After-Ski.
Got something lighter on and easy to move around in, still cool and swish - a light-grey or off-white as a main colour and a white edge and lining. The hat is – a cowboy and polar-inspired soft hat. White leather boots and a red top to break up and enhance the sports-feeling that one still wants to keep when you are on a sporting holiday like this. This is a winter and spring inspired jacket, trouser, boot, glove, top and hat.
See you out on the slopes and don’t forget to get dressed for the After-Ski.
By the way I have added a Winter princess wallpaper.
| Tattoo an eagleArchive: 2008 January
|
| Today I have made a new eagle, or more exactly, an eagle’s head. I just wanted to show the multitude of shapes around the eagle. Here I have taken the opportunity to reuse part of the wave-like symbols and integrate them with the head of an eagle. The view of the bird’s-head, as you can see, is drawn slightly as if you were looking from under the head. This is to make the bird feel as if it is above you. This gives a feeling of power and that it is a mighty animal. It is also looking away - as if with a nonchalant attitude - and this is also to enhance the feeling that it is a very strong symbol. So if one would wear it on one’s arm, or on a t-shirt, it would clearly show that it is worn by an outstanding being. I’d say that reminiscent styles were known to be used before, by sailors and other people who had been through rougher times in their lives. Nowadays anyone can have a story or feeling that they want to make eternal. I think that you even see similar art on T-shirts, bikes, cars and bodies.
As for - they have been around a long time and today there are even TV-shows about tattoo-artists and their work. For example, there is the popular show - about the very clever tattooist, Ami James, and his friends.

| The Eagle – A powerful birdArchive: 2008 January
|
| The king of birds is a symbol mainly used in heraldic weapons or emblems through the years. For the symmetric styling they used to be two-headed, a double-eagle. In antique animal literature it is written that the eagle was able to look right into the sun without being blinded by the light or not even blink. The eagle was said, like Phoenix, to have the powers to become young again.
I chose today to design an eagle in a tattoo-like way. It gives a forceful feeling and in this design the eagle holds a banderole that one could write a powerful phrase on, a family-name, motto or slogan. I have also integrated some twirls and wave-like pattern behind the bird. This is to enhance the feeling of freedom with the wings pointing up in the air. The ”V” shape would give a more impressive look too if one would have it as a tattoo on one’s back or chest - or maybe as a t-shirt print or even for a regular shirt.
The design itself is dynamic even though it’s only made in black. Here the shapes and the illustration stand out instead - so colour seemed, in this case, unnecessary.

| Air hostessArchive: 2008 January
|
| The first flight attendant was a steward in 1911 - when the zeppelins were used. The first uniforms were made to be durable and practical. Some airlines even let the personnel be dressed as nurses. Otherwise the normal look for a flight attendant was more like a military look.
The colours of Varig airlines. So this time I feel that I should take the Varig logo a little bit further. As you know flight attendants, known as stewards and air hostesses, dress in uniform. So I’ve used the main colours in Brazil’s flag - green and yellow. The passengers should easily recognize the personnel on the flight. The main colour is green and the dress, in the example, has yellow high-lights. One could also have a version that was yellow with green stripes. Together with this uniform they all have a little hat, which also has the matching stripes. The end of the sleeve should be the same colour as the stripes. On the chest or sleeve they can have the wings. They should be in gold to give a more exclusive look. One could also have matching bags and accessories to this look. These – I’ll make some other day.

| Varig - The Brazilian airline.
The other day I stumbled on an airline when I heard that a friend of mine was thinking of going to Venezuela. I thought it would be fun to see what airline or company he was going to travel with. Airlines, aeroplanes and airports often have very nice and sleek designs. I would say that the airlines through the years have slipped down a bit in rang compared to Airports anyway. So I’m checking out different companies to fly with and remember - Brazil’s first airline. It was established in 1927 and today is a very well known airline. My friend is still going to Venezuela, but I found Varig’s graphic profile and logo of interest. I find that their is only one symbol, or more exactly text, that they use on their website. So I felt that they should actually add a symbol to it. To get the extra exposure on everything from pins on the staff uniforms to the airplanes in the sky - or as a passenger where one would only see them on the ground. After looking a bit at their fleet of planes I actually see that they might be using the compass ”rose” on the tails of the planes.
The symbol – Is originally an arrow. I’ve also made it like a tail of a plane with the resemblance of the compass-rose on their website - to give some kind of feeling of what they are showing graphically today. The symbol also resembles the wings from a plane. I thought that would give it a nice character. It’s easy to use in both directions – left and right – forward and backward. Depending in what direction you would need to focus - for example pointing the plane in a forward direction – if you would put the logo on the tail of the plane - or on a business-card you would want to point to the card-owner’s name…

| The John Hancock CentreArchive: 2008 January
|
| I have been making some designs the last week that evolve round The Hancock. More exactly . If you check out their website you see that they have a very safe approach. The only thing is that they don’t have an eye-catching logo. The plain font used is stylish but would be slicker if it were worked on a little bit more.
So I took the liberty of making a new logo and text. The main thing they are selling is of course the building itself. So that would naturally be a shape to use in this corporate company. The name says very clearly what it’s all about – the building. The symbol just has to give a hint of the skyscraper. I kept one of the masts so some of the character still remains. The silhouette of the building is also portrayed. I have left an opening up to the sky to enhance the feeling of height and that the top of the roof touches the sky. More obvious part is that I’m using the initials to make the logo.
The text below the logo is almost the same as the original one. Changing logos isn’t always about changing everything. Some of the feeling that was in the old logo can make it easier for the regular client to adapt to the new logo. The text and letters are connected in different places to give a more connected look.

| A cocktail glassArchive: 2008 January
|
| Taking a drink in the sky - a possibility to see the town or city from above.
A fantastic feeling and impressive view call for a drink - or even a drink in a sophisticated glass! The glass gives the bar the atmosphere and the drink a nice way of serving it. This glass is thought to give you the feeling of the Hancock building itself - a structure reaching for the sky and taking you up there to it - making the view your wallpaper. That’s why the top part of the glass is bigger because you should get the same feeling when you are sitting by the window looking out at the night-life below. The stems and support-beams are there to resemble the cross-going beams on the outside the building itself. The glass is of a dark shade, but still transparent to let the drink itself colour the glass. The glass foot is made out of mirror to enhance the colour and catch the lighting from the ceiling so as to reflect up into the drink.
I would call it – “the Drink of the sky”. What it would contain will be the bartender’s privilege! So one – yes, you, - could sit up in the bar sending your e-mails, using your e-stamps, while – at the same time - having your evening drink.
| A stamp for ChicagoArchive: 2008 January
|
| An e-stamp.
Today I’ve been inspired by Chicago’s John Hancock – . One of Chicago’s most impressive buildings, it was built in1969. It is 1.127 feet high with a massively impressive view from the top and a nice architectural look.
This set my imagination going and I thought about putting ”The Hancock” on a stamp. The stamp has to give the same feeling of greatness just like the building. So I have made a very tall stamp compared to its width. This is to enhance the feeling of height. I also gave it a night-life look - thinking of . A great place to go for a drink and enjoy Chicago from above. The suttle texts in the background give the information that it actually is the Hancock Centre.
Putting it on a stamp was mainly to give the stamp a thought - that one could use it even when communicating with today’s e-mail and other similar interactive ways of communication. So one could attach a stamp in your letter – this would show where you were sitting today and sending that info to your friend, relative or business-colleague. One could get it from the internet-caf you are sitting at, or you have one made for yourself, or your office or hometown.
So now it may be time for the stamp to make a new approach to the world. In1840 I believe that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland made a great choice to start this widely spread way of getting people to communicate.
If you want one made I might just have the time – so send me an e-mail or write a comment and I’ll see what we can do.
