Manage from address for the ‘Send an Email’ task

by Niklas Waller on February 23, 2012

in Salesforce

On an account under ‘Activity History’ you have the option to:

  • Log a Call
  • Mail Merge
  • Send An Email
When you choose ‘Send an Email’ you have a number of from addresses to choose from. Your own is the default choice. The other ones can be added and modified in another place.

Send an email

  • Go to Administration Setup -> Email Administration -> Organization-Wide Addresses
  • See the listed sitewide email addresses.
  • Click edit on anyone to modify or create a new.
  • In edit mode you can choose which profile has the right to use the address. A user with a specified profile can see this address in the from address field in the Send an Email window.

Great weekend and great fonts

by Sven R. Ohlson on February 20, 2012

Cartoon alphabet lower case colour

There are so many nice fonts to choose from – and so many versions and shapes to enjoy. Only thing is that I still love to make new fonts and ideas concerning this field – trying out new looks and shapes. It’s a great way to create graphic expression in words! Many different ways to approach a word is to choose a font that suits the mood you want to set. Or even when designing a logotype – the font in the name is important to give the symbol the right feel to it. Either to stand out from it or to integrate into it!

Here are a few more letters in the same style that I posted the other day – these are lower case as you can see. I made them to encourage my kids to learn the alphabet.

I’ll keep you posted on how that goes! They seemed to like the upper case ones anyway. Now that doesn’t mean that they will learn them by heart…

Snowy tree

Today we have snowy pine tree.

The photo is taken from under the three looking up to the top and the sun shining on it. I like the depths of the photo.

List dashboard running users

by Niklas Waller on February 16, 2012

in Salesforce

When people are leaving a company, they are sometimes still in the org which causes some problems. They could be listed in different settings but also as running users of dashboards. Here is a good way of listing the dashboards where a specific user is set as the running user.

  1. Create a custom report type with Dashboard as the primary object
  2. Create a report with this report type
  3. Make it two columns; Title and Running User: Full Name
  4. Add a filter: Dashboard Running Users equals “Run as specified user”
  5. Save and run report and click on the name column to sort

This is something that should be added to a routine when someone leaves the company and not only for sudden problems.

Cartoon letters for kids

by Sven R. Ohlson on February 13, 2012

A cartoon alphabet in colour

Time to learn the alphabet? Or at least my kids are ready for this… – I think I´m all set. But I thought I would help them along a little… You know – to get them to think it looked a bit more fun and stimulate them in the learning process – and that letters can come in many different shapes and forms. Many letters have small animals and give-aways to help you guess what words start with this letter… But in school you often have to learn the alphabet by heart.

Here is a little opportunity for the kids to play around with the letters. Cut them out and build their own words and alphabet – I´ll update you all how it goes!

Grillbasket or grillkorg in the snow

Grill marshmallows and hotdogs

I bought an iron basket the other day – for grilling and burning wood. It looks nice at night when the fire is burning and when it has burnt down you can barbeque some hotdogs or marshmallows. The kids love it!

Today is a splendid day of sunshine and blue skies – so off out in the snow!

If you get this error while working with a Visualforce page in Salesforce the reason could be that you are trying to call a method that doesn’t exists in the action attribute of the apex:page tag. I.e. in this case ‘aMethod’ does not exist in class ‘controllerClass’.

<apex:page title="A Title" standardController="Opportunity"
extensions="controllerClass" tabStyle="Opportunity" showheader="true"
sidebar="true"  action="{!aMethod}" >

A big cat

A bic cat - the tiger as a pictogram

This weekend has been full of fun and games in the snow. It has been pretty cold too – still the weather was wonderful – the kids love playing around in the snow. You get lots of fresh air and lots of inspiration!

Here is a little sketch that I made of a tiger or big cat of some kind.

Winter is finally here

Snow tree

Winter is finally here. We have really missed it!
The christmas was green unfortunately but we have to compensate for that now and spend a lot of time out playing in the snow and going downhill.

It is so beautiful when you have a really cold and white day with lots of sunshine!

Here is an example of
1) how to query fields of an object and fields on records of a related object
2) how to loop over the queried records and the records of the related object in Apex

In the below example the Opportunity is the master of a master-detail relationship where Sub_Object__c is the detail. The task is to query fields and set these to values on both the opportunity and to the related Sub_Object__c records.

public void resetStates() {

// Create map of a list of opportunities.
Map theMap = getTheMap();

// List all opportunities except the selected one,
// i.e. the map excludes the selected opp.
List allOpps = [SELECT Id, Selected__c,
(SELECT id, Selected__c FROM Sub_Object__r) FROM Opportunity
WHERE Id IN: theMap.keySet()];

// Loop over the opportunities and set values
for (Opportunity o : allOpps) {
  o.Selected__c = false;

  // Loop over the records retrieved in the nested SELECT statement and set values
  // Do this for each opportunity
  for (Sub_Object__c so : o.Sub_Object__r) {
    so.Selected__c = false;
  }
}

// Update the db with the new values
update allOpps;

}
